Taylor Manufacturing Systems Announces Availability of Batch Allocator ATLANTA, GEORGIA, February 8, 2002
Taylor Manufacturing Systems, a leading provider of advanced production scheduling (APS) software, today announced the availability of a new product, the Batch Allocator. The product is already in use in seven pharmaceutical plants worldwide.
Batch Allocator is intended for use by manufacturers that must produce in fixed batch sizes and deliver packaged products in multiple configurations. Batch Allocator optimizes how the individual packaging orders are allocated to each batch being produced. Many companies such as pharmaceutical, chemical and food and beverage manufacturers produce a relatively small number of products which must be packaged for consumption in one hundred or more local markets around the world. Most companies today allocate the end item orders to batches by hand, resulting in either unused ends of lots that must be stored or scrapped, or in unfulfilled orders.
"Pharmaceutical companies and other process manufacturers now have the flexibility to manufacture a product centrally, but move the packaging fulfillment and distribution closer to the customer, rather than building production sites around a specific product," said Roddy Martin in The AMR Research Alert on Manufacturing, February 7, 2002.
The Batch Allocator works in conjunction with a manufacturer' Enterprise Resource Planning System to allocate customer or distribution orders to batches scheduled in the manufacturing plan. The sequence and number of batches is adjusted to accommodate the actual requirements before a final production plan is generated.
