Leading Pharmaceutical Manufacturer Tackles Planning and Scheduling Complexities of Supplying Worldwide Markets ATLANTA, GEORGIA, January 9, 2002

Taylor Manufacturing Systems, a leading provider of advanced production scheduling (APS) software, today announced that seven Novartis Pharma plants have gone live with the Taylor Enterprise Scheduling System (TESS®). Additional plants have also gone live with Bounded Disposition, Taylor's batch manufacturing optimization solution.

Novartis Pharma generates manufacturing plans using its Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system at a plant level. These plans are then passed to TESS, which generates short-term capacity plans and detailed weekly production schedules. Bounded Disposition is used to optimize how the individual packaging orders are allocated to each batch of pharmaceuticals being produced. Prior to implementing the Taylor systems, they planned batches and scheduled production manually.

Novartis Pharma has gone live with TESS in its Spain, United Kingdom, Turkey, New York, Japan, France and Brazil plants and has deployed Bounded Disposition in Spain, United Kingdom, Turkey, Germany, Italy, France and Brazil. Because both systems are part of their global information technology initiative, they ultimately will be deployed in plants worldwide. "Working together, Novartis Pharma and Taylor Manufacturing Systems have solved some extremely difficult production planning and scheduling problems and have demonstrated we can deploy these solutions quickly and easily," said Neil Taylor, President and CEO of Taylor Manufacturing Systems. “They are a model for how to deploy information systems effectively.”

With the help of Taylor Manufacturing Systems consulting group, Novartis Pharma has established a global competency center to support TESS and Bounded Disposition and to lead deployment of the systems worldwide. Several additional plants are expected to go live with TESS and Bounded Disposition this year.
