Management Buyout

October 1997 - Taylor Manufacturing Systems (TMS) has experienced a buyout by a group led by Neil R. Taylor, Vice President of Total Control Products and founder of Taylor Industrial Software. Ursula Hess, former strategic business unit manager for the TESS product was announced as the new president.

The new entity, Taylor Manufacturing Systems, Inc., will be located in Atlanta, GA., and will market, distribute and support the Taylor Execution Scheduling Systems (TESS) software, which is a leading Windows-based planning and scheduling software solution.

TESS provides shop floor scheduling and planning for medium- and large-sized manufacturing companies in the discrete, repetitive and batch process industries. “TESS is becoming recognized as a premiere solution that is gaining market share in the rapidly growing advanced planning and scheduling market,” said Neil R. Taylor, principal investor in the new TMS business. “Over the next several weeks, we will announce a number of alliances and relationships that will allow us to take full advantage of this award-winning product.”

TMS was acquired by TCP in 1996 as a part of its acquisition of Taylor Industrial Software. According to TCP President and CEO, Nicholas T. Gihl, “TESS is a fine product in a growing market segment, but it simply did not fit within the strategic direction of Total Control Products.”

Introduced in May, 1995, TESS has been installed in more than 100 sites, including Pfizer Pharmaceuticals, Van Leer Corporation and Menasha. TESS provides real-time data transfer functionality which links to the shop floor with higher level business planning systems. TMS will continue to work closely with Taylor Industrial Software (TIS), promoting the TIS supervisory control product which links TESS directly to shop floor equipment and processes. TESS will continue to be sold directly, and via qualified channel partners.
