AIWA Implements Integrated TESS/BPCS Production Planning/Scheduling Solution
March 1999 - Taylor Manufacturing Systems, Inc. announced that its advanced planning and scheduling (APS) system has been implemented at an AIWA facility in Japan to increase manufacturing performance levels and facilitate short-term production forecasting.
Taylor's Windows-based TESS will be integrated with SSA's BPCS® Client/Server V6 at AIWA consumer electronics manufacturing facilities throughout the world.
According to AIWA, the company selected TESS due to its ability to create accurate production schedules based on standardized rules, maintain consistency between production lines, and respond promptly to shop floor delays with revised production schedules.
AIWA is taking advantage of Dynamic Runtime, a new feature in the current release of TESS, to recalculate the scheduled run rates of machines as operators become accustomed to producing new products and components.
According to Taylor Manufacturing Systems applications manager, David Weger, TESS extends the capabilities of the BPCS Client/Server V6 into the arena of short term planning and shop floor scheduling and execution.
“TESS is very well suited for the electronics industry and together with BPCS we are offering a very strong solution for the Asian market,” he said. “An existing TESS option provides for an easy translation of the application in many languages, including Japanese.”
